Virtue Signaling in Public Statements

[Think of the times when a celebrity responds to a news event with a statement that they condemn it.]

Why [is it] a virtue to state one’s opinion to no one in particular? [Is there a d]ifference between articles/essays and [such statements of “I] agree/disagree[“]?

[Articles often lack a specific audience, but they serve a purpose of teaching for those interested in reading them. Do celebrity statements serve such a purpose?]

Why urge [others] to publicly condemn [some news event] but for [the sake of the] bandwagon? Why take public events so personally? [If the event does not affect you and no one is looking to you with questions, your signaling is self-centered and pointless.]

There is a time and place to state one’s position for or against a specific person, but there must be objective benefit. All else is foolish prater.
